1cupbeef broth (low sodium recommended)
1tablespoonsoy sauce
4hearty hamburger buns
1cupprovolone cheese, freshly shredded
to tasteSalt and freshly ground black pepper
2tablespoonsolive oil
optionalFresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely diced onion and green bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until they are softened and fragrant.
Stir in the minced garlic and continue to cook for an additional minute until the garlic is aromatic, but be careful not to burn it.
Increase the heat slightly and add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks. Brown the beef for about 7-10 minutes until it’s fully cooked through. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Introduce the thinly sliced steak into the mixture. Stir well and allow to cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the steak is just cooked through.
Pour in the Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and beef broth. Mix everything thoroughly and let the mixture come to a gentle simmer. Allow it to simmer for about 5-7 minutes or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
While the mixture simmers, preheat your oven’s broiler to high.
Split the hamburger buns and load the bottom halves with the delicious sloppy joe mixture. Generously sprinkle the shredded provolone cheese on top.
Place the assembled buns under the broiler for 2-3 minutes. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning; you want the cheese to be bubbly and lightly golden.
Once they are out of the oven, place the tops of the buns on each sloppy joe. For an extra touch, garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
Serve with crispy fries or a green salad for a complete meal.
